When prospects Google you, will you be embarrassed by the search results?

Have you tried Googling your business? Seriously … have you tried typing your name into a search engine and see what pops up? If you haven’t, please do so at your earliest convenience. If you've never tried Googling yourself, please you open up the search engine, type in your name and business location ... such as "John Smith Indiana Financial Planner" OR " Smith Financial Services Indianapolis IN". These types of searches are similar to what your prospects, referrals, or clients will be typing into Google. You may be surprised what you don’t find!

If you can’t find your own business online, how are your prospects supposed to find you? I’m going to be honest with you, if your business doesn't pop up on the first results page from a Google Search, you might as well say “sayonara” to these potential new clients. As a modern society, we have learned to adore convenience. If your prospects cannot find your business easily through a basic online search, there's a good chance they will not be working with you. They will simply keep searching for a financial advisor who meets and exceeds their expectations.

Today, your first point of contact is your website or social profile somewhere on the internet. Let's face the facts, most people do not want to speak with you on the phone for their "first point of contact". People will only call you or answer your calls once they've decided you're worthwhile to work with. It’s incredibly important that you establish a basic online presence to keep your prospects from “jumping ship” and working with your competitors. Your prospects, referrals, and current clients need to be able to find you doing a basic internet search. This allows people to find out more information about you while reassuring themselves they are making informed decisions.

The easiest way to establish your online presence is by having a website. Your website provides you with a platform to demonstrate your knowledge about the services and products you offer. This educational information will show prospects how you will help them achieve their financial goals. You may say that a website isn’t important, that you’ve been in business for years without one and have gotten by just fine. You may even say that, “My client’s don’t have an email address, computer, or tablet”. While this assumption is true in some cases, you are probably very wrong about most of your clients and prospects. How many people do you know who do NOT have a smart phone? Here's a little secret ... smart phones are computers with internet access! So, you better have a website ... AND a mobile friendly website.

Do you honestly think that most retirees and pre-retirees who have accumulated over $100,000 in wealth do not use the internet? I think it’s safe to say that your ideal market most likely uses computers whether you realize it or not. Think about this … how many people do you know who DO NOT have a smart phone? Most likely, your answer is probably a few of your friends or none at all. Let me tell you a little secret … smart phones are computers! Most smart phones require a data plan which means they have access to the internet. So, even if they don’t have a "real" computer at home, they have one in their pocket. So, you better have a mobile friendly website for these prospects!

Simply put … without an online presence, you are losing out on valuable business opportunities. All of that money you spend on direct mailers, seminars, or radio shows may be going to waste if you cannot be found on the internet. Your prospects will use the internet to make informed decisions about who their financial advisor will be … will your business be the one they choose? Or will you let a more savvy advisor swoop in and make your prospects their clients?

If you need help with improving your online presence, schedule an appointment with one of our marketers.

Jason Google my name and tell me how I can clean this up. I have a court document that shows I was released. Is there any way for me to put that on my google area. Are you working on any new email drips. If I have something to try can I use that through you.
